Our professional association has been established in 1991 with the aim of promoting the professional status and improving the pay and working conditions of all interpreters and translators working in the State of New South Wales.
This object has largely been reached, thanks to the efforts of PAIT and the gallant assistance of the PSA, when in 1996 an historic “Consent Award” from the newly formed Government of New South Wales has been achieved. This however, covered only the Community Relations Commission, formerly, Ethnic Affairs Commission.
There are still Government Departments who have not been approached by PAIT and who have not tried to equate their remuneration with the CRC benchmark. Most of them have not as much as improved their remuneration payments for Interpreters and Translators.
We therefore urge practitioners in NSW to JOIN P.A.I.T.
